Having lived in a home with carpet all of my life, I have never really had a need for slippers. But since renovating my office and removing its carpet, I have since discovered that my feet get so cold from the floor (even with socks) that I can't actually work in there. So, yesterday I started looking for some way of 'DIYing' (not a word, I know) some slippers for myself and for the people who will eventually work in my office with me. Shoes would be a more obvious idea, but unfortunately, shoes will ruin my floors, so that is not an option. I found a bunch of really cute ideas that I would love to try soon, but unfortunately, I do not have what I need to try the REALLY cool ones. So I adapted an idea I found here. (Thank you for all the pictures, Violet, which made it easy for me to follow your instructions).
I did not want to sew anything last night so I just tried following the first five steps without sewing. To my surprise, the stuffing did not come out from the bottom of the sock if I wore them without sewing the bottom as long as I put it another sock first. So I was able to make these in less than five minutes.
Easy Generic No- Sew Slippers
I started by putting on the socks I wanted to use and tracing my feet on a piece of cardboard. Then I cut about a quarter inch around the outline.
I stuck the cardboard into a pair of socks and then stuffed the bottom of the cardboard. This was to be the soft and cushy sole of my slipper.
It Then I stuck the sole inside another, bigger sock and just put the sock on so that the stuffing was cushy on my footsies... okay, enough baby talk.
It may look like there is not enough room for my feet, but to my surprise, there was since I used super stretchy socks.
Want some cute bunny slippers? Of course! Who doesn't? The above link is great for those cute slippers.
The kids want slippers that scream Princess Elsa? Have the kids use bright blue socks. Paint them entirely with fabric glitter (I especially love this one) and embellish them with cheap iron- on snowflakes. I found these on Amazon specifically made for Frozen- themed crafts.
I like crafts that can easily be adjusted to fit almost any theme, and I feel like these slippers could work with almost any theme. If you turn this easy no- sew slipper into something FABULOUS with your kids, please post a pic in the comments or Tweet me @merissawrites. Till next time!
