As most of you know, the 1980's spin- off show of 'Full House, called 'Fuller House' finally aired on Netflix, yesterday making its cancellation in 1995. I have been looking forward to the long- awaited show since it was a just series of speculations and rumors. And since I own the first season of the original, I was looking forward to seeing the similarities and the differences.
The first show centered around a single dad, his brother- in- law and his best friend trying to raise three girls together. The spin- off centers around his oldest daughter, DJ, her sister, Stephanie, and her best friend trying to raise her three boys and her friends teenage daughter. If first heard of the similarities when the trailer dropped about a month ago. After hearing them, I started to have doubts about whether this show would be WAY too similar with no real twists in the plot.
After watching the first episode, I continued to have questions since it was just the first episode, and if you remember the first episode of 'Full House,' it really wasn't that great, either. The first show got a lot better and I continued to watch it because of the value the show put on family and togetherness, which is one thing that I also strongly believe in.

But I have mixed feelings about this new show for a number of reasons (some I just can't put my finger on). Firstly, the two shows are almost identical in major plot points and even some minor ones. Even after 13 episodes, I still can not decide whether that is a good thing or a bad thing. On one hand, they have basically updated us on what has been happening to the Tanner's and kept the same family- vibe we all loved. On another hand, I wonder if this was the creators just trying to 'piggyback' off the other show's success or are they using similar material to bring back memories of the first show. One episode in particular really stood out to as being a little bit too similar. In episode 5, 'Mad Max,' of the Netflix Original Series, Stephanie leaves for a few days to DJ at a big party. When she comes back, she gives a monologue that is almost the exact same one that Uncle Jesse makes in episode 20 of 'Full House.'
Then there were times when I felt like some of the actors where trying a little too hard. Although, the characters were developed MUCH better by episode 7, or so. Again, I really hope the acting continues to improve. I am sure the actors/ actresses needed a few episodes to redevelop their characters.
I thought that by the time I finished watching all the available episodes I would know exactly what I think, but unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?) I do not. Most spin- off shows with all these similarities would not even get a second look from me, but this show was so iconic I feel it would almost be a crime for them to change it too much, right?
What did you think? How many episodes have you watched so far? Leave me a comment.
*Oh, and to the creators; you could have been a little nicer to the Olsen twins... Just saying.*
