I was talking to my brother about all the fun I have with four kids I care for regularly and it dawned on me; so far, their mom has always seemed to get home right when we are doing something that was just really strange.
For example, last time Mom got walked in right when Colt and I were pulling the table from the kitchen to the living room and tying a web of yarn around the table legs. We were making an obstacle course under the table for the kids to climb through.
On my first full day with them, Mom came home and there was a jar of peanut butter, a bag of brown sugar and a plate of tortilla shells on the kitchen counter. The kids were skating around the kitchen floor with their socks and a pile of bubbles. The kids were mopping the floor the fun way (I call this soap skating) and I was putting away our snack of peanut butter and brown sugar burritos. They couldn't chew it with only peanut butter and we couldn't find the jelly. PB&BS it was!
At this point she mostly just says "... I won't even ask..." when she gets home. We cleaned up our mess and now the kids WANTED to mop the floor. But really, the best part about being a nanny is the look on Mom and Dad's face when they walk in the door and we are doing something strange. Then a look of relief always follows when they figure out what is REALLY going on. I guess fun always seems strange from the outside with me.
Seriously, what are some fun things your family has done that would look just plain crazy from the outside?
I was a nanny for over ten years. Now, I make homemade toys and write full time. Occasionally, I work at my local schools and provide back- up child care for some parents I used to work for and for my church's nursery. I am multi-talented and loves to paint, draw, crochet, write and sew.
