The Nap Sign

PictureKids waking the babies.
I am currently babysitting four kids (9, 6, 3 and 18 months). The two younger ones don't go to school, and the two older ones get home from school toward the last 30 minutes of the little ones nap. Now, I don't know about you, but it drives me crazy when they come home from school so loud you'd think they just came back from Disney Land!

At first I tried meeting them outside before they get to the door, but that just isn't realistic 90% of the time, since I am usually cleaning, cooking or working. I look forward to the 30 minutes visiting with just the two older ones without worrying about whether my one- year- old is eating from the garbage and my three- year- old is flushing his socks down the toilet.

So I decided to try something new. And it was so obvious, I didn't think of it sooner because, being a creative, I like to think more outside- the- box than anything. I put a sign on the front door when the kids were napping in BIG red letters that simply said "Children Napping. Please be SILENT!" That seems to have done the trick... until the kids get inside, and they forget the whole "Shush!" concept. Haha. All- in- all, I can't believe I didn't think of it sooner. Now, the trick is to help them remember to be silent when they get inside the house, also. But that's for another pos
"Sleeping children, please be SILENT!"

    Meet Merissa

I was a nanny for over ten years. Now, I make homemade toys and write full time. Occasionally, I work at my local schools and provide back- up child care for some parents I used to work for and for my church's nursery. I am multi-talented and loves to paint, draw, crochet, write and sew.

My love of learning started before I can remember. One thing my mom always said is to learn a new skill every year for the rest of my life and you will never get bored. Since I am so competitive, I tried to one-up her by learning a new skill every month. That did not last long, but it did ingrain in me a love for learning new things that I just can't shake.

In the summer months, I teach an art class called "Beginning Zendrawing in the Park." I am on the Autism Spectrum, and one of the best pieces of advice I ever got was to remember that everyone has challenges in life, I just have a different set of them. I want to teach everyone to embrace all those little imperfections, and strive to be better every day. I currently run a blog with free printable for those who like to doodle.

I am planning a one to three year trip around the country where I will teach art classes in each state. The goal is to leave for the 3 month practice trip in three years (Summer, 2022). Things may change, but 2023 is the goal.  If you want to keep up on my art classes, check out my art blog here.
